Cognac Diamond FAQs

What are champagne or cognac diamonds?

Champagne or Cognac diamonds, are natural, real diamonds, just like white or ‘colourless’ diamonds, except they have a brown hue to them of varying strength. Darker browns are usually referred to as Chocolate, medium dark are referred to as Cognac, and lighter browns are referred to as Champagne.

Which is more expensive, Cognac, Chocolate, or Champagne diamonds?

Unlike white diamonds, where all things being equal, a D colour is more valuable than a F, which is more valuable than a H, with coloured diamonds things are a little more complicated. A Cognac is no less valuable than a Champagne of similar size and clarity, and so personal preference comes into play more. Some people prefer the deeper colours, others the lighter shades. It’s really a case of deciding what colour you prefer with your chosen metal.

We find both Champagne and Cognac diamonds work very well in 18ct rose gold, and have sent may of our coloured diamonds in rose gold as a result.
