FAQ
Founded in 2009 by brothers, David and Barry McCaul, McCaul Goldsmiths is an independent jewellers based in both London and Dublin. We design, make and set each piece in-house, from start to finish, with traditional goldsmithing skills and the use of modern technology combining to create our unique curvancous, elegant pieces.
Our London atelier is located in the heart of London’s design centre on Exmouth Market and our Dublin atelier is located in Malahide, Co. Dublin.

Our Materials
We use 100% recycled gold and platinum in our pieces as standard. All McCaul Goldsmiths’ jewellery is made from 18-carat yellow gold, white gold, rose gold or platinum. Each of our pieces can also be made in Fairtrade/Fairmined gold upon request.
Pure gold is too soft to be used in everyday jewellery, so other metals are mixed with the pure gold to create a metal suitable for everyday wear. 18ct gold is made up of 75% pure gold and 25% of other metals. Platinum is alloyed with other metals for strength and workability rather than colour. The platinum used in our jewellery is 95% platinum alloyed with 5% copper. Read a little more about the differences here.
We work with a small number of trusted gemstone and diamond suppliers with whom we’ve developed relationships with over the years. We only buy from suppliers who guarantee that their stones are ethically sourced.
We use only conflict free diamonds in our jewellery, all are sourced from suppliers that comply with the Kimberley process. For those interested in a diamond, we also offer the choice of using lab-grown diamonds in our pieces.
Customisation & Bespoke
If you see a design you like in our collection but would like it in a different combination of metal and gemstone we can make it to order, sourcing a range of diamonds or gemstones for you to choose from.
Some of our designs are one-of-a-kind and are made with unique or unusual gemstones. Although we may not be able to repeat these, we can work with you to create a bespoke piece of jewellery based on the design. Visit our bespoke page to read more about the process.
We offer an engraving service for an additional fee.
Sizing & adjustments
Ring sizes and chain lengths can be adjusted to suit you. When placing your order please advise us of your ring size or desired chain length and we will make any necessary adjustments.
If you are buying jewellery as a gift or if you are not sure of sizing we offer two options;
Order our jeweller’s ring sizing set. With 1/2 size increments, you'll be sure to find the perfect fit, and order online in confidence. We will also ship the ring sizer set to you with a discount code, which will reduce the cost of any ring bought on our website by the cost of the sizers.
If you don't want to spoil a surprise, order your ring and once it is gifted we can accurately measure your partner's size & resize as appropriate. There is no charge for adjusting ring sizes and chain lengths on the first occasion.
