Engagement rings for men: 6 things to consider when proposing to your male partner
In most cultures, the engagement ring is traditionally bought and given by a man and symbolises of the woman’s commitment to her partner. But traditions are changing and both women and men are increasingly seeking engagement rings to propose to their male partners with.
Research done by British jewellery brand, ROX Diamond & Thrills posits that 64% of men believe both partners should have the opportunity to wear an engagement ring, if they want to that is. This is a welcome shift in outdated gender roles and the perceived norms surrounding engagements. The same study also says that nearly 5 in 10 men (47%) do not agree that only women should wear an engagement ring.
When it comes to searching for engagement rings for him or proposing to a male partner, the tradition of giving an engagement ring is just as significant. But what should you consider when selecting the perfect ring for your partner? Here are some key factors to keep in mind:
1. Ring Style
Consider your partner's personal style and preferences when choosing an engagement ring. Some men may prefer a classic and understated design, while others may prefer a more modern or unique style. Take note of the type of jewellery, if any, your partner typically wears to get an idea of what they might like.
For some men a wedding band, let alone an engagement ring, would be the first piece of jewellery they own or wear. So consider their habits and personality when choosing the style of ring you propose with.
2. Ring Size
Getting the right ring size is crucial when it comes to engagement rings. You want the ring to fit comfortably and securely on your partner's finger. If you're unsure of their ring size, consider discreetly borrowing one of their rings to have it sized or consult with a jeweller, like us, for guidance.

3. Metal Type
There are various metal options to choose from when selecting an engagement ring, such as platinum or gold, yellow, white or rose, even unique Damascus steel, they make perfect unique men's engagement bands. Each metal has its own unique characteristics in terms of durability, colour, and price. Consider which metal type best suits your partner's lifestyle and preferences.
4. Gemstone or Diamond
While diamonds are a popular choice for engagement rings, they are not the only option. Choose a gemstone that reflects their personality and style. Consider adding diamonds, or texture, to make the perfect proposal ring for men.

5. Budget
Setting a budget for the engagement ring is important to ensure you find a ring that fits within your financial means. Remember, the value of the ring is not solely based on its price tag but on the sentiment and commitment it represents.
6. Engraving
Adding a personal touch to the engagement ring through engraving can make it even more special. Consider engraving a meaningful date, phrase, or symbol that holds significance to your relationship. This small detail can add an extra layer of sentiment to the ring.
This is just a quick run down of the factors to consider when selecting an engagement ring for your male partner. You can ensure that the commitment or marriage ring you choose is not only to their taste but also meaningful and reflects your relationship. Remember, the most important aspect of men's bridal rings is the love and commitment it symbolises.
